Back at school after a marvelous break. I found it difficult to get back into the swing of things and was dearly concerned about my schedule. Whatever I don't take this semester, I must try to fit into the final semester. I am becoming acutely aware of just how short this program is, but when it is over I get two rewards. My Masters in Information Systems Management from CMU and I get to live with Tim. I bet you can guess which one I'm looking forward to most.

Tim and I continue to talk about our future together and plans for our house. It is very exciting to think about, our future. I just can't wait to make it a reality! I am lucky to have found in Tim someone I can talk to, someone I undeniably trust and someone whom I don't want to change. That is rare and I feel truly blessed and lucky to have found him.

What is also enjoyable is our love of experimenting in the kitchen. This weekend we chose barbequed chicken with broccoli, salad and scalloped potatoes as one dinner and the other dinner was Grilled Pizza! I made the dough from scratch (it has been a LONG time since I've made a yeast dough) and we built our own pizza after Tim expertly grilled the dough on both sides. It had such a wonderful flavor. We had a base of sun-dried tomato pesto, fresh mozz, fresh basil, fresh tomatoes, and sausage, pepperoni, onions and red peppers. You wouldn't think you could fit all that on a personal pizza, but we managed. And to top it all off... Balsamic Glaze. Boy, that stuff is good! You don't need much, just a drizzle, but it adds so much to the overall flavor.

Next weekend we are going on a double date with two friends from Grad school! Hopefully soon we will also get to see Darryl and Julie again.

I finished my first semester at Carnegie Mellon and thus 1/3 of my Masters, relatively unscathed. I managed to maintain an A average on very little sleep, particularly in the final weeks. I was a complete zombie once finals were over and yet I still had a Term Paper and group assignment for Telecom and the final Java assignment due. How I managed to finish it all I don't know. Let's hope this semester finishes with less of a bang.

Once the semester was over, I only took one day off (to recover from an allergy attack) and began studying for the Financial Accounting exemption exam. Luckily I passed as I heard all last semester how much homework was assigned, anywhere from 8 hours to 12 (even 24, depending on whom you asked) per week! So one week of vacation and an hour exam seemed well worth it. I find out sometime when the exemption exam is for Principals of Finance. I'm also going to ask the professor about exempting Economics as these classes were my undergraduate major and all taken at the Graduate level in the Johnson Graduate School at Cornell University. I hope I'll be able to, it just means I'm studying as though I am currently taking those classes at an accelerated pace to be ready.

After the exemption exam I was so ready for a week of rest. I made some jewelry and assembled some scrapbook pages. It was awesome as those pursuits are very indulgent and I am unable to devote the time during the semester. I was also able to cook meals for Tim and myself. I made meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy from scratch as well as a side of dill carrots. This was a meal Tim has been requesting and we were finally able to put in the time. No wonder microwaves came along! Those types of dinners are very time consuming! But tasty. Then we made Flank Steak with roasted corn salsa. That was so good! That corn salsa I could eat all on it's own. Finishing up the meal was my Peach Blackberry pie which is rapidly becoming my signature dessert. It's a slight modification from a recipe we found in the Cooking with Wine book.

Thursday of last week we headed out to North East to visit Tim's side of the family. Unfortunately there were multiple family health issues that kept Angie and Gary away much of the time visiting the hospital to care for their loved ones.

Cindy, Angie and I also did some preparation for the Wedding. We went to Potratz for a flower consultation as well as to David's Bridal to try on dresses. I'm glad there are witnesses to attest, I only tried on one dress because once I had it on I knew it was the best one. It is one I had been looking at and always drawn to and luckily it fit and looks as good as I imagined. I am so excited and very glad I had my ladies with me. I only wish my mom could have been there too!

Friday we went to Bella Spa to get pre-wedding hair and makeup. I wanted to try them out to experiment. See the pictures on the photo page for the entire weekend. Since we were all gorgeous, the boys grilled us dinner. Sweet and spicy Italian Sausage and Hamburgers with grilled peppers and onions and corn. We also brought salad fixins, of green leaf, cherry tomatoes, candied walnuts and gorgonzola cheese. Have that with balsamic dressing, yum! I made the Peach Blackberry pie on Thursday, however the peaches we bought from the grocers freezer were nothing like the peaches I used earlier in the week that I bought fresh and froze myself. You wouldn't think, but it made a huge difference. We also got to see Patty and Floyd, Angie's parents and had a wonderful time chatting with them.

We got to watch some Olympics and put together more scrapbook pages and see the family so it was a wonderful weekend and I look forward to Labor Day weekend when we return to Racoon Creek park.

I am finally a Pittsburgh, PA resident. It was a long time coming. But in my wallet is now a temporary Driver's license. I will receive the real one in 15 days after they have scanned my photo and compared my face to others making sure I am not a fraud. I would love to know the accuracy rates for that application.

In New York, I was able to get my driver's license, register to vote and register my car all in the same location. Pennsylvania believes in a more decentralized approach. Once you take a number from the red deli counter style machine, wait for three hours in a place that only has 6 chairs to be served by only two workers, to find the network between New York and Pennsylvania is down, you start to consider how they could be better organized. But maybe they have it laid out like this on purpose, because people give up and leave before they have to do any work! But I admit to being bitter.

Luckily they did have a location that was open on Saturdays. Tim was wonderful and came with me for the communal suffering. This location was far more organized and provided seating for close to 40. The number machine actually provided a time estimate of 35 minutes. So an hour and a half later my number was called and I was sent to get my picture taken. Here I was also able to register to vote, thankfully, and received a temporary yet fully functional license. And my picture isn't that bad!

Then I go to register my vehicle at another location. Unfortunately my proof of insurance still had my New York address. So I contacted my insurance agency and asked for it to be faxed. Three hours later, my car is registered in Pennsylvania. YeHaw! And I only have to rinse and repeat this process when I change my name in just over a year.

Camping was excellent. Although we did get some rain the first two days, the Altimus' are consummate campers and were prepared for any event. Also I was able to complete my assignments without being withdrawn from everyone. I am glad that this mini I have one fewer class. That should help give me some time on the weekends to hang out with Tim.

We took walks, built massive fires, chopped wood. I posted the photos on our photo page and Tim annotated the images. So forgive us in advance. ;).

I had an excellent time camping and can't wait to do it again come Labor Day weekend!

Technically the year is 1/6 complete. I have one more mid-term in Java to go, but I am beginning my new mini courses this week. I have completed Statistics, Organizational Management, and Professional Speaking. I am adding Linux and Professional Writing. I am looking forward to being introduced to both tomorrow.

This weekend is July 4th weekend. I will be camping with Tim and his parents and am very much looking forward to it!..

This past weekend Tim and I bought a home building software package. We have strong ideas about what our home should look like and thought it would be a fun treat to virtually build it together. It has been very entertaining, both in getting to know the application and in getting to create on screen what we both see in our imagination.

Classes are in full swing and some classes are actually nearing their end. The semester is divided into semester long courses as well as half semester minis. My minis are all wrapping up and the final weeks are at hand. It is making me think how fast this program is. On one hand, yay, since I am putting my career on hold. On the other hand I am sad as this is a wonderful experience. There is something about college that is at once invigorating and freeing yet at the same time completely consuming.

So far so good, knocks on wood. Even in my feared Java, I have an A. It takes dedication and lack of alcohol, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make. ;) Actually, Grad School is very different than Undergrad. Here we are a much more diverse group. There are folks that were in the work force for less than a year along with folks that have held professional positions for more than 10. There are also those that are back in school only part time. It makes for a very active mix.

The work is intense but so far manageable, again knocks on wood. Although I am very focused staying up until 1 or 2 am most nights, waking between 8 and 9 am most days. I do my best to get the homework done before the night before it's due. Work continues to roll on in. I find it difficult to justify my netflix membership as I don't have time to watch a movie. But I continue to reflect on how perfect this program is for me. It is exactly what I was looking for.

We have been at the Altimus-stead in North East, PA celebrating Memorial weekend with the family. I was lucky to meet Dan and Holly Piazza and their beautiful girls, Elizabeth, Abby, and Hannah.

The weekend began with Angie, Cindy and I meeting with florists to attempt to get ideas for flowers and possibly select a vendor. I was amazed at how the decor of the florist and their demeanor effected me. It really drew my attention and steered my desire to work with certain people and to steer clear of others. I have whittled the pool to 2 vendors. One of which could not meet with us this weekend, they were doing 3 weddings that day!

Saturday evening, Tim and I took Dan and Angie to the Peak 'n Peek for a double date dinner. We got all dressed up, Angie even wore heels with a bad ankle. Both ladies were unveiling new dresses and looking forward to this chance to hang out just the four of us. Tim had the filet, I had swordfish, Angie had the scallops and Dan the Chilean sea bass. Tim asked Dan to be his best man and I asked Angie to be my Maiden of Honor. And the wine was good too. Over dessert we talked about plans for the wedding while reminiscing about the wedding Dan and Angie shared 7 years ago.

Sunday was the family picnic, we had a full crowd of 18 members of the extended family. Grandma and Grandpa Altimus, Gary and Cindy Altimus, Dan & Angie, Luke and Shane Altimus, Dan & Holly, Elizabeth, Abby & Hannah Piazza, Patty & Floyd Piazza, Lois Mundaniohl, and Tim and I. The food was awesome, Salmon, burgers and hot dogs for the main dishes, Potato salad, Slow cooked bean dish, crudettes, angel eggs, fruit salad, spinach salad and more!

Monday we head back to Pittsburgh where I jump back into the grad school mind set. It has been a good first week and I am looking forward to not falling behind. ;)

We have returned from the Virgin Islands, my last adventure before grad school. Speaking of grad school, this past week was orientation and school begins on Monday! Very exciting time.

Things to recall from our adventure, the drivers are crazy and the roads are scary. The drivers communicate to each other by honking. And they are not very polite drivers. That expression "Don't block the box" is totally lost to the islanders. They will honk at you if you are leaving the opposing traffic any space. The vehicles are built the same way as on the main land, steering wheel on the left, but you also drive on the left! So it is unfortunately easy to forget.

The island is very driven by the cruise tourism community. They expect you to be consummate shoppers and want jewelry above all. The shop owners are quite distastefully aggressive. So much so they literally command you to go into their stores and look at their wares. To look around you wouldn't believe they sell such high ticket items. The island seems to exist in abject poverty. But you could, if you wanted, purchase an $86,000 chandelier.

We also had some technical mishaps. You'll see from our photos the moment I killed my phone (parasailing and getting dunked in the water on Mother's Day), also I shocked my Kodak camera by plugging in the wrong AC adapter. And my wallet was in Tim's pocket while snorkeling. But through it all we had a marvelous time.

Since leaving CBORD, I don't have Dreamweaver on my new laptop... yet.  This has made giving updates, frankly, impossible.  I am looking forward to Steve moving to Pittsburgh.  That happens on Thursday.  It will be nice to have someone around when Tim is off gallivanting across the country.

The apartment is phenomenal.  I love it!  I have a formal dining room where the table can have all the leaves in place and all 6 chairs surrounding it.  There are also two glass covered cabinets for my dishes and wine.  We had Darryl and Julie over for Lasagna (and continue to enjoy the leftovers.)

I continue to look forward to and plan for the wedding.  I have purchased my first "things" and plan to get more little by little.  I got the petals and draping fabric for the ceremony.  Next month will be the toasting flutes, guest sign in book and the cake cutting set.  I am in communication with the cake lady and photographer.  This will be an awesome event!

I finally gave notice at work. Now begins the adventure of returning to school full time while planning the details of this wedding. I am so looking forward to both! Pittsburgh, here I come! I can't wait to live in a town where the Whole Foods Market is my local grocery store, where there is an Ikea, and Major League sports teams. I am grateful for the time I spent in Ithaca, it was an adventure, but I look forward to starting the next chapter.

I've been in Pittsburgh looking at Apartments. Found a nice one right next to campus. Hopefully will hear back from them soon with the approval of my application. Looking forward to moving to Pittsburgh and going back to school!

So a month has gone by (waaaay too fast!) and there are a few exciting things that should be mentioned! Due to ghastly raises in rent (my own) and the massive inconvenience of spending weekends driving back and forth through the city, Britt and I have decided that I will move in with her on the other side of town. We're both very excited to combine all of our stuff and purge the dupes! I've already began the process, having packed up most of my kitchen, office and bedroom. We'll be carting boxes over with our cars on the weekends (we figure one trip every Saturday and Sunday) before the actual "move in" date of Nov 23rd. I'll be picking up my dad's truck and heading back down to move the few big pieces of my furniture that we are keeping.

Now, I know what you're thinking, but we have also decided to have a quick and dirty civil ceremony to keep things legit. We won't be announcing the day to anyone, nor will we wear our rings after the ceremony (she isn't even going to change her name), but it'll be legal and keep things legit. So wow... we're getting married!

Britt continues to shine in school, having recently recieved her previous semester grades and ending with a 4.0 QPA. That's my girl! :-) I continue to traipse the country for work, building up gobs of frequent flyer miles (to be redeemed for 2 tickets to Italy next September!)

Other than that, our lives are fairly normal........Ok, there really is nothing at all normal about our lives.. she's a full time, accelerated Masters student, I'm only home on weekends, we're getting married in a few weeks and I'm moving in with her at the same time... egads! How will this all get done???? ARGH!!! Till next time....

Well, I've officially been yelled at again for not updating my blog. "Think of Patty" says Britt, and so I am guilted into giving this brief update of the goings on recently. Starting back on Labor day, Britt and I went camping with my parents for the second time this year. The weather proved to be a little better and we had an excellent time, even though Brittany ended up doing homework most of the trip.

On Sunday of that same weekend, we all drove up to Erie for a shindig with my dad's side of the family. Brittany got to meet my cousins (Joel/James/Phil) and numerous other family members which she will be quizzed on at a later date. We had a great time with the family and were glad to have the chance to meet Shanae (Joe's wife) and see Phil and Heather's kids.

Fast forwarding a bit (ok, a lot) to yesterday, Britt and I had a nice dinner with Jai and Lokesh, friends and classmates of Brittany's at CMU. Just after our delicious food was served, Brittany asked Jai to be one of her bridemaids! Jai seemed excited and said yes! Yay! So, Britt now has Angie and Jai. So far, I have asked only my bro Dan. Who's next you ask? Wait and see... ;-)

I need to mention here that Britt and I have also done some wonderful dinners on the weekends. I mention this only becuase I'm currently hungry and food is on my mind. I especially need to point out that we grilled our first pizza, which was INCREDIBLE. Britt made me a from-scratch dough, and I slapped it on the grill till it was perfectly done. Then we used a roasted tomatoe pesto for the sauce, put on some sliced tomatoes and sliced of fresh mozzerlla, then some basil, pepperoni and sausage. To top it off, we drizzled balsamic glaze over the whole thing and put it in the oven for 10 minutes or so. WOWSERS that was good. I highly reccommend you try it.

Anyway, enough about that. Other goings on with the wedding.... Brittany and I spent a little time today looking at invitations, trying to pick out something we like. We have a few samples coming in the mail, so that decision will be put off until they arrive and we can pick one together. We also did some registry modification, removing some items and adding others. Britt got the cake topper she ordered as well.

One ongoing discussion we are having is for the honeymoon. We've decided on Italy, but are still working out the details. I believe that currently we have decided to spend 3 days in Rome, sightseeing, and then drive into the hills of Tuscany for a few days, touring the wineries and enjoying the legendary Tuscan landscape. I think we have decided to get a travel agent to help us make those plans, because, while we are both very practiced national travelers, neither of us has done any real international travel and we'd hate to miss all of the little details that could make or break the trip. Well, I suppose that's all for now. Till next time...

Ok, Brittany yelled at me for not updating my blog recently. This past weekend was a good one. Britt took Saturday off from her schoolwork and we spent the day doing errands, then went to dinner with some friends and saw "The Dark Knight" which was amazing. I bought some new clothes, and Mario Kart for my Wii (so fun!) and we did a little racing back home. Good times! This week, I was home Mon and Tues, but head to Alabama (joy) Wed - Fri. Regarding the wedding... well, no new work has been done, but I did buy some books on Italy so we can start planning the honeymoon. We're both looking forward to sipping some wine in the hills of Italy and seeing some of the amazing sites over there. We'll keep you posted as we decide on what sites we'll be seeing. Till next time...

So I just got back from a trip to Oregon. I had figured that it would be a boring trip with nothing to see or do. Turns out I was only an hour from Crater Lake! I was able to drive up there a couple times and spend a few hours gawking at the beauty and hiking up the cliffs that surround it. It was a great experience and I think I got to see Oregon at it's best. There was still snow on some of the roads, so much so that some of them were still closed... meanwhile, it was 80+ degrees and sunny. The park ranger told me that the snow wouldn't completely melt until the end of July. Wow! You can see the pictures I posted HERE.

Brittany is doing great in her courses. She spends quite a bit of time studying, but it is definitely worth the temporary sacrifice and it is paying off as far as her grades go.

Regarding the wedding, I finally decided on a DJ - John Gallagher. We spoke a few times and he gave me the best feeling. He has a great reputation and is very well known in the Erie area as well. Brittany said she heard back from Andrea, who will be doing our photography, confirming the date. More pieces falling into place! Till next time...

Brittany and I just arrived back into Pittsburgh after our great weekend in Erie with my family. We had a night out with Dan and Angie, and now have our Best Man (the OTHER best man...) and our Maiden of Honor. We're excited that they'll be so much a part of the wedding since they are so much a part of our lives.

The rest of the weekend was a nice mix of enjoying the weather, talking with family, and eating great food. Brittany mentioned narrowing down the playing field for who will provide our flowers, as well as starting to pound out details with my mother and Angie on the shower. She has even begun to visualize the wedding cake. Seems like things are falling together on that front. Till next time...

So this weekend, exciting wedding stuff happens. Saturday, Brittany, my mother and sister in-law go flower shopping. Ok, I admit, that doesn't sound at all exciting to me. But hey, they're looking forward to it and that's what counts. Also, Saturday evening, Britt and I will head out to the Peak to give Dan and Angie a look at where our wedding will be held and have a nice dinner. My parents have graciously agreed to watch the kids while we do this. We're looking forward to the picnic on Sunday as well.

Meanwhile, this week and next, I'm actually not traveling and will be working from my home office. The coffee is good and the music is great. Working from home as an SE (System Engineer) means having a pretty relaxing schedule, short work days and the chance to catch up on all of that "stuff" that I've been wanting to get done but haven't had the time. Anyway, we'll keep you posted on how the weekend goes. Till next time...

I'm baaack! I have left paradise and joined Brittany in reality once again. The Virgin Islands proved to be more beautiful and exciting that I had imagined. Brittany points out (see her blog from today) a few of the memorable events and recollections from the island. I must reiterate that driving on the left is quite a challenge. A challenge made that much harder by the fact that the local drivers are insane. It's like NY City style driving on narrow roads that make S curves look like straight roads. However, the beaches were amazing. The sand was pure white, wonderfully soft and fine. It extended into the water as far out as we could swim or see, the bed of the ocean pure white sand. On the trip, I had along my digital camera and a waterproof case that I had purchased for it. The camera took some amazing shots underwater (see our photos page for a link to the pictures we took). Unfortunately, I ran out of battery and had forgotten my charger on the trip! Argh! I was able to buy a charger and have my camera for the rest of the week (it was only out of action for one day).

One thing though, really stands out to me. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were absolutely wonderful. Britt & I had such a great time exploring the island together. Once Britt had left for home though, the island felt more like a prison to me that it did a tropical paradise. It's amazing how the beaches of paradise become nothing more than a place to kill time until you can be with the one you love again. It just isn't exciting to drive around the island on your own, or to snorkel without anyone to share the moment with. I had originally planned on staying the following weekend as well, but by Wednesday, I couldn't wait to get back to Pittsburgh.

And so now, here I am, sitting in her living room writing this, while she organizes the photos from the trip. I'd rather be here with her than alone on Coki Beach watching the sun set. Till next time...

Much has happened since the last entry.  Namely, Brittany is now a resident of Pittsburgh.  She has settled in nicely and loves the city life.  This past week we've been on vacation, relaxing and spending our time at home. We visited Fallingwater (Frank Lloyd Wright) as well, but mostly we just played video games (Lego Star Wars is awesome!) and did a bit of reading.  This coming week will be her first week in the city without me around, I'm curious to see how it goes.  Of course, school hasn't started yet so she won't be so busy, but there are plenty of things left for her to do (Car registration, drivers license, etc).  Needless to say, we're both thrilled that the 6 hour drives to visit each other are over with and Britt is looking forward to starting at CMU.  This year promises to be challenging for both of us in regards to how much time we'll be able to spend together, but the payoff at the end will help us keep focused.  Till next time...

So maybe it's the divinely emotional music I'm listening to (Fellowship of the Ring score), but the verdict has come down: long distance engagements suck. Inconsistent phone calls and weeks without seeing each other can be very depressing. Ok, it's probably the music.  This is good stuff (I think Gandalf just died in the movie)! But still - I spoke with Britt today while she was purchasing a t-shirt on the famed 17 mile drive on the pacific coast. She was enjoying the drive in beautiful sunshine, I was walking through the cold rain into the grocery store to get some grub.  Ok, maybe it's not the music and I'm just jealous.  It will certainly be nice when she gets to Pittsburgh though! Till next time...

So here I am in Missoula, Montana with my Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream wondering why we didn't register at Best Buy... I just finished a rather thorough walk through, having had some time to kill, and realized that there are more things I want per square foot in that store than any other store I've ever been in. I wonder if Britt would be ok if we traded her Opal Innocence china for some computer games, a 62" plasma tv and a fridge so high tech that it has a touch-screen LCD monitor built in for tracking groceries. I feel like I need those things. I can eat my steak off of a napkin if I must, but how could you ever compare mere dishes to a surround sound system that has so much bass the vibrations could cause the San Andreas fault to shake loose. Ah well, Brittany probably wouldn't see it that way. It was a good thought though. Till next time...

The sweetest, most wonderful thing Britt has ever said to me? "I can't wait to live with your bandwidth". Tell me folks, how could I not love a woman who would say that? For those of you wondering what that's about - I have a very nice setup of business cable coming into my apartment. It's very speedy, Britt got jealous. Till next time...
